LLAMA

Larry

Our very adorable llama, Larry, is a farm favorite. At 15 years old he will live out his golden (and we hope his best) years at BRRB. He was brought to the sanctuary by a local family who had learned that he had lived a long solitary life on a large property with little interaction and no friends, and would soon be homeless, as that land was to be sold to a developer. He was our first large animal rescue and as such, will always have a special place in our hearts.

In his early days with us, Larry asked for a lot of space, and his trust had to be earned with patience and time. Over the months that followed, and with the help of treats, he became so much more comfortable around his caretakers, and we were able to really see who this amazing guy is. So curious, interested in other animals and people, gentle and wise. His best friend is our farm dog Jesse. This perhaps unlikely friendship was forged the moment they met. A very excited 4-month-old Jesse eagerly approached Larry, who, without hesitation, walked to greet him, and then bent down to touch his nose to Jesse’s. It was a beautiful thing to see. Larry had spent so many years alone, and just like that he had a new bond, and we think he knew right then that he wouldn’t be on his own anymore. He seems to welcome meeting new animal friends and we are actively seeking a llama friend for Larry. Until then, Larry enjoys daily playtime with Jesse as well as his pasture roommates, our three female sheep. Watching Larry grow and become his confident, curious and sometimes silly self has been a tremendous gift for us all.
