FAQs

  • Blue Ridge Rescue Barn is located in Alexander, North Carolina, 20 minutes north of Asheville.

  • Blue Ridge Rescue Barn is a working farm, and therefore we accept visitors by appointment only. You can register for a guided tour here. We can’t wait to see you!

  • Blue Ridge Rescue Barn rescues farm animals suffering from neglect, abuse and homelessness.

  • Most of our residents are what we consider “sanctuary” animals meaning the best path for them, due to their history or health issues, is to live out and enjoy their lives here at the sanctuary. We treat each animal on a case by case basis and will consider placing animals into forever homes if we feel that they would thrive in a different setting than the one we can offer them.

  • We appreciate your interest in helping us care for rescued farm animals and invite you to complete a Volunteer Application that can be found on our website. We will be in touch soon!

  • Thank you for your interest in supporting our mission. We are grateful for your donations, monetary or otherwise, volunteer service, and being an advocate for farm animals.

  • The best part of visiting an animal rescue is meeting and spending time with the animals! During your visit, a staff member or volunteer will introduce you to our residents and you may be able to give them pets and treats. Keep in mind that we allow our animals to decide their level of participation in social interactions, and sometimes they are feeling shy.

  • While we certainly love companion animals, we are a sanctuary committed to farm animals. If you need to rehome a cat or dog, we encourage you to contact one of the many wonderful no-kill companion animal shelters in our area. Please feel free to contact us for a list of organizations.

  • When we commit to an animal, it is for their lifetime, which can be up to 35 years. The costs associated with lifetime care are very high and ongoing and we can’t do this without the financial support of our community and fellow animal lovers. We also rely on volunteers to help us provide the highest level of care to our residents and we are always looking to add helping hands.

  • We appreciate your support and would love to speak with you about making a gift to Blue Ridge Rescue Barn. Please reach out to us at brrescuebarn@gmail.com.

  • While we are not able to accommodate school visits or groups at this time, it is our goal to welcome school groups in the future. You are invited to schedule a community or private tour and we will be thrilled to show you around.

  • If you suspect a case of animal neglect the law requires that you reach out to either the police or animal control officer in your town. Blue Ridge Rescue Barn does not seize animals. If you have questions about this legal process and would like guidance on the proper authorities to contact we are happy to point you in the right direction.
